TF2 Update: WAR!

It’s not really surprising that Valve continues to update a 2 year old game such as Team Fortress 2, but it is surprising in the manner that they’ve chosen to do it. Previous classes such as the Medic and the Pyro were updated without much fuss, with each day bringing a new weapon unlock and perhaps a new video or so. This May Valve ramped up their updates to the popular game by pairing the Sniper and the Spy update for huge success, which is exactly what they’re doing with this update.

The Demoman and the Soldier are the next in line to receive an update, with war being declared between the two. Valve has taken the whole thing a step further by turning it into a contest, with the deaths of each side counting toward the other. At the end of this week on Thursday, the side with the most kills of the other class will be rewarded with a fourth weapon. This is pretty much unprecedented in updates, as all classes thus far have received equal treatment with three unlocks.

Aside from this, the crafting system was announced, which has many players in an uproar over support and hatred of the feature. While many people feel as though Valve is turning their beloved FPS into an MMORPG, others love the breath of fresh air it brings to the game. Of course, anything Valve does with their game will carry controversy, as evidenced by the whole halo fiasco which occurred when Valve awarded their “honest” players with new hats.

So who will come out on top? It’s hard to say, as both sides have been viciously for that mysterious fourth unlock, but come Thursday when the blood settles, I’m sure we’ll all be amazed.
