Xbox Live Supports 2 Million Concurrent Players After MW2 Launch
Modern Warfare 2 has probably been the biggest title to launch this year, and will most likely earn several awards at the Video Game Awards ceremony hosted by Spike later on this month. However, it also broke a record for the Xbox, with more than 2 million subscribers online and playing (not all MW2 mind you!). Major Nelson posted a tweet early last week which gave the details surrounding the server load, with several astonished gamers replying with congratulations and a few grumps about lag, which is to be expected.
While it’s clear the launch of MW2 has had a significant impact on the increase of players using Live, the launch has probably been a great stress test for Microsoft to determine just how well their servers handle under so much pressure. If they keep at it, they just might catch up with Steam one of these days.
