PS2 Released in Brazil.. 9 Years Late
While it may not seem like news to us, Sony has finally started selling the PS2 console in Brazil, albeit after nine years of availability on the American market. The big joke here is the price Sony is asking for the console, which is R$799, or $465 in greenbacks. The PS3 doesn’t even cost that here in the United States!
However, the heft import taxes Brazil levies on electronics is a major reason the outdated piece of equipment costs so much. In addition to its release, the PS2 will he available with about 14 games, which is a fraction of the original archive. However, the titles include popular classics such as Gran Turismo 4 and God of War II.
It should be noted that this is just Sony’s “official” release. The PS2 has been in the country since its US release, and thanks to piracy, the official sales probably won’t soar. Now, one has to wonder how long it will take the PS3 to make its way south of the equator.
