Ubisoft Demands Great Review of Assassin’s Creed II
It seems like after the scandal which surrounded Eidos raising a stink about GameSpot’s Kayne & Lynch review, game publishers and developers would learn that attempting to force the media’s opinion one way or another on a game is a bad, bad idea. However, this time the stink comes from Ubisoft, not Eidos. According to a German magazine with the headline, “Assassin’s Creed II Skandal“, Ubisoft is attempting to strong arm reviewers into giving the game a good score. Here’s a translation in English:
“Our reviews are tough, but fair. We will not give up our independent scores for the sake of a timely review. This holds true for “Assassin’s Creed 2?. The publisher asked us to guarantee the score ‘sehr gut’ [very good], otherwise we would not receive a review copy, thus we will publish our review in next month’s issue. We’d be more than glad to give the game a ‘sehr gut’, but only if it deserves it.”
We’re glad to see the media sticking up for what’s right. There’s nothing worse than purchasing a game which you do not enjoy but thought you would based on the rave reviews it has received. Media hype over games has proven time and time again to be just that: empty promises.
