Need For Speed Shift Preview

Need for Speed Shift will be released in North America on September 15th, 2009 and in Europe on September 17th, 2009. We must admit this game slipped by our radar – in fact we didn’t even include it in this weeks Make It Rain Trailer post. Fortunately, we caught wind of the game being released through a commercial on Sunday during the NFL Football opening week. And the commercial was perfectly executed and made us realize how much we love this series (13 in all). The fact is the game has to be great to compete with other racing games coming out notably Forza Motorsport 3, which will be released on October 27th, and Gran Turismo 5, which will be released in Q4 of this year.
Car enthusiasts and racing game fans will like the options provided in Shift. It has 60+ cars ranging from super cars to lowly compacts. Plus, tracks include 15 real-world locations like Willow Springs and Laguna Seca as well as fictional circuits in downtown Tokyo and London. Stars are given out by achieving competitive race objectives like drifting for so many seconds and podium finishes. As you unlock stars you are given the option to play with new cars, parts, and tracks.
The game is taking steps to move away from the arcade style play with more simulation based action. One of the cool new features is called Car Battle. It allows you to battle it out with 15 specific matchups to determine who has the best car. Overall, I think this NFS game is definitely worth playing considering the options available. It’s clear Electronic Arts is trying to keep pace with the competition. Keep reading for the official game trailer as well as a trailer showing Car Battle mode….
