MySpace To Become A Gaming Platform
MySpace’s owner News Corp is looking to get into gaming. This will make them the first major traditional media company looking to expand into this sector. News Corp digital head Jonathan Miller says “None of the traditional media conglomerates are also significant video game players, so to speak, and I think that that’s the missing piece of the equation, particularly when you see how much time is spent playing games online,” Miller said. The idea is to make MySpace’s gaming platform better geared to videogame suppliers. This will enable the suppliers to want to launch their products on the site and employ its user data to better develop games.
In my opinion this is a great opportunity for MySpace & News Corp. If MySpace does indeed become a future gaming platform it could help it compete against fast gaining FaceBook. Currently, both MySpace and FaceBook have portals where friends can play video games online.
