Guitar Hero 5 Import Old Songs And Pay For It
Guitar Hero 5 is slated to be released September 1st, 2009. One of the biggest questions coming into the game is whether songs from past GH titles will work in the new version. We’ve got our answer and it contains both good news and bad news. The good news is that some of the disc based songs from Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero Smash Hits will be importable. The bad news is that a fee for importing the songs will occur for licensing costs. Tim Riley, head of licensing for Activsion, explains the concept here. “They are separate licenses, so we need to go back and re-license previous content. So, songs from World Tour, songs from the download space, songs from Smash Hits that will technically work in Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero had to be renegotiated…We didn’t want to do it for a couple songs. We wanted to do it for a couple hundred songs. So we have a lot cleared and we’re in the process of clearing a lot more.” For more information on GH5 check out our earlier posts on artists, new features, and drum kits.
